In fact, in this six minute clip from WTTW's Chicago Tonight program, reporter Jay Shefsky interviews TATI regulars (and intrepid winter commuters) Kasey and Tim! These guys represent everything that's great about the bicycle scene on our neighborhood: both are low key, committed cyclists who have really figured out how to reduce their carbon footprint while pursuing a happier, healthier lifestyle. At the same time, both Kasey and Tim have found a way to mix the practical with the fashionable: witness Tim's kermit-the-frog-green handlebar tape and matching yellow fenders and rims on his do-it-all baby-toting Surly. Note Kasey's rakishly angled helmet over the chic merino wool Deller cap.
Bravo, fellows. You've represented the southside but good. It would be really nice to see the local media produce more of this type of informative, positive coverage of the Chicago cycling scene. I mean seriously: alleycats, messengers, and hipsters are truly peripheral to the heart of our city's everyday cycling community, and yet that's where all the ink spills.
