I'm pleased as punch that good old Doc Films is screening not one, but five Jacques Tati films this quarter. In fact, these films are the reason for the pause in the shop's series of free classes. The classes will return soon, but probably on Wednesday evenings instead.Do try to make it out for at least one of the screenings, as Tati is very rarely shown in North American theaters any more, and the prints are becoming very worn and rare. If you're a fan of Chaplin or Keaton, you will surely appreciate Tati's penchant for slapstick and visual comedy... but in fact, Tati's work does carry a bit more weight, as he was very critical of modern society's materialism and superficiality. But most of all, enjoy them for his amazing bicycle stunts and wonderful sense of style.
