• I've every intention to act the rolling advertisement for the UCVC, despite a natural aversion to lycra and an irreversibly expanding paunch. But my plan to temper the synthetic gear with a bit of summer-weight merino wool (in the form of custom maroon caps and jerseys) wasn't faring too well last week, when the prototypes arrived in a brick-red hue.

  But thankfully, the fine folks at Champion Systems must have anticipated this chromatic slip and shipped several dozen team jerseys sublimated in a virtually identical color!

  Six-panel New Zealand "summer weight" merino wool, as used by Icebreaker and others. Short brim, full ear flaps. Thin enough to fit under a helmet. Mid-February.

  Long Sleeve Jerseys, $100
  New Zealand "summer weight" merino wool, as used by Icebreaker and others. Racing cut with long tail and three rear pockets. 12" zipper, also in maroon. These can be used for layering or standalone to the low-80s. Late-February.
