When coaching novice riders, it's always important to emphasize the importance of team tactics and fitness over equipment choices. The thing is, our Cat 4 riders have been working together now for nearly a year, and have shown marked improvements in many areas. And so I feel very torn emphasizing the equipment choice of one Jesse Williams, who not only won the Notre Dame crit, but took two primes along the way. That Jesse has only previously posted mid-pack criterium results is immaterial. He's certainly been working hard. And it's tough to ignore the heroic attacks and lead outs provided by his mates Dan Houle and Francisco Torralba.
But he was riding a Storck Scenario CD1.0, one of the stiffest and lightest frames on the planet. Maybe it was just a coincidence.
