The sun was blazing by the time of the start of the M4 race. Brean's Cutting Crew stacked the field and was itching for a win, so I figured the best we could do is to find some safe wheels and hold on for dear life. Tommy cramped up on this, his inaugural road race, so more bananas next time. Bernard had a tough time after dropping his chain, but hung on to finish in the heat. The Claus and Danton made TATI history by riding at the front for the entire race, even accidentally getting into a break with two laps to go. And if Dan hadn't pulled into the wind for half a lap, who knows how things might have gone differently?
In the end, IIT's Ryan Freund had an easy solo win and Brean's acolytes got confused and tried to finish a lap early, leaving it up to the old man to represent Cutting Crew, and he did -- by handily winning the field sprint.
More importantly, we stopped repeatedly for ice cream and sugary sweets. Next time, cheese.
